2 weeks, 1 day post op
Overall I am feeling pretty good. This is the first day i actually feel like typing so I'll tell the whole story.
We left for Iowa city at about 5 am, on our 2 hour journey there, stopped by Quick Trip and went on our way. We made it to the hospital and finally found a parking spot after a little mishap with the parking ramp...uh um. Made it to the DOSA (day of surgery admissions) at about 7:30. After about 10 minutes I was called back and taken to a little room with a recliner and a TV =] They took my weight and asked all of the other questions I had heard a million times. Finally, they put my IV in, I was so nervous at this point. The anesthiologist (?) came in and talked to me about all the risks and blah blah. Then he made me use some saline mist in my nose because the breathing tube placed during surgery might cause a bloody nose. Then he said here we go, I thought this was quick and the emotion took over me, I started bawling, and was kissing my parents goodbye. I walked to a gurney and got under the covers. We went for a little ride and then we went into the OR. I was glad I didn't have my glasses on at this point, I couldn't see the instruments. There were only two nurses in there at the time. I saw my XRAYS up and felt a sigh of relief when the anesthiologist gave me some calming medicine. He put the oxygen mask on and poof I was gone. I woke up feeling nauseous and a little scared, but I was drifting in and out. Went to the recovery room and I was there for two hours when they finally found me a pediatric room, it was nice to have my own room! Drainage tubes were taken out the next morning, that hurt the worse, and I was sent home the next day around 9 am.
Recovery has been pretty smooth but I didn't really have any pain until the last few days. I am still completely numb from my lip to my chin, but really hoping that will go away soon. The surgeon and ortho say my bite looks perfect and I only have a few more months left in braces. YAY!

7 days post op
Well this hasn't been bad so far, I have a huge appetite, is this normal? When does the numbing go down, I'm still completely numb from my lower lip to my chin...my incisions have been bothering me but not too bad. I am doing great! Am having no pain and I feel well enough to go back to work already. I did have a few moments of depression, I think just because of the laying around endlessly for days, but I'm doing just fine!!! Does the pain get any worse than this, or did I make it through the worse??

18 days!!! EEK!
So yesterday I went to the surgeon. First thing they took me back and had XRAYS done. After that we met with the nurse for a health history, and surgery info. I learned that I could be numb for up to a year!! SCARY! We got food guidelines, instructions, etc. Then I met with the resident surgeon who explained my procedure. They're moving my bottom jaw forward 5 to 6 mm and I might have to get a chin implant. We signed the papers and now it's official, I'm getting my jaw surgery on October 7th! I will be getting my surgical archwire next Tuesday. That's all for now!

21 days until..
Today was the first day I have actually cried about getting the surgery. The realization that we had made the down payment and there was no turning back is getting to me. Also, the fact that my boyfriend of two and a half years cannot come to my surgery was a big upset..
Ugh...im getting to anxious!!
Tomorrow is the pre surgery appointment, exactly three weeks away from the surgery...I think by the time it gets here my face will be all broken out lol, I woke up with a huge zit on my forehead thanks to all of this stressing....
Anyway I'll let you know how tomorrow goes!!

23 days till surgery
(A profile view....and my fat chin...)
Lets just say I'm freaking out!! I have read all of this stuff saying this surgery isn't bad and I shouldn't be freaking out but I am..I have so many questions...
My surgery is scheduled for October 7, I have to meet with the surgeon next Wednesday for a pre surgery history...and stuff, not sure what else. I am having a orthognathic surgery, a reconstruction of my mandible...scary stuff.
Does anyone have a list of things (like food) I need to buy before this??
